The Law Offices of Kameli & Associates represents parents in ensuring the rights of their children to a “free appropriate public education” under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 1990 (IDEA). Our legal team seeks to represent and guide them through the administrative process under the IDEA by:
- appearing with parents at mediations,
- helping parents file complaints with the Illinois State Board of Education,
- representing clients at due process hearings or representing them in formal civil actions.
We can also file suit on behalf of parent clients if their child is being excluded in ways that go beyond the provisions of the IDEA. We are just starting our special education practice and are looking to familiarize ourselves with the law pertaining to special education in order to give our clients the quality representation that we deserve. We may not have experience yet but we have extensive experience in fighting tenaciously and going the extra mile for our clients with regards to immigration, corporate/business issues, or employment law. Our experience in immigration and fighting to get people into this country makes us specifically attuned to the needs of those most vulnerable in the community and we want to expand that to help those being excluded. In the midst of the COVID-19 Pandemic, schools are having to adjust their instructional requirements and guidelines to teach students with proper social distancing guidelines. Yet all across the country, special education students have had to suffer the brunt of these changes, with little attention to their individual needs and struggles in the rush to make education convenient for their non-disabled peers. In the effort to help everyone beat the pandemic while living a normal life, children with special needs have been effectively left by the wayside. In this situation, we want to place all our legal resources at your disposal to help you fight for your children’s rights under the existing statutes for special education and disabilities and make sure they are being heard even in an exceptional time such as this. We want to be part of the fight to help ensure the quality of individualized special education during these times as well as ensure the rights of children with disabilities under the existing statutes.
We understand that not every student is the same and that different children have different needs based on both the nature of their disability and their particular life experience. That is not an issue for us. At Kameli & Associates, we dedicate extensive time to serving our clients individually as people, working with them to understand their individual stories and struggles and making sure our representation meets their individual needs as clients and not just throw them in a one size fits all box. We bring this personalized attention to all of our clients and you can be sure we will bring it to you and your child in your goal of ensuring your child’s rights in the classroom.
Our goal is to represent children with special needs and ensure they get their “free appropriate public education” as is their right under the IDEA, that their parents are able to monitor and track their progress under the terms of the IDEA and that they are afforded their full dignity and safety as students in the classroom alongside their peers under Title II of the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
We will also represent these children in other situations where they may be victimized or endangered.
Finally, we will represent the parents of children with special needs and help them achieve both the education and proper environment so their children can grow and learn alongside their peers as well as ensure their own rights to help shape their child’s education under the IDEA and its procedural requirements.
